Old printers showing when I try to print

September 7th, 2005 by Brandon
When I try to print something, there are about 20 printers in the drop down box available for me to print to. I only have 1 printer, so I know they are all old printers that I don’t use anymore. Is there any way to delete or remove these old printers from this list in the print window? I have Mac OS 9.

Open any OS 9 program (Appleworks, Word, Outlook, etc) and try to print and then you see your printer at the top, click the little arrows to the right of that box. If you see more than however many printers you have (1 usually) then you have this same problem.

Your computer has been setup to use multiple printers, and has them all stored so that you can print to them in the future. This is a very handy function, but it also creates confusion.

To remove all of these printers, follow these steps:

1. Double click your Hard Drive on the desktop.
2. Open your System Folder (OS9)
2. Find and open the Preferences folder
3. Find and open PrintingPrefs
4. Delete PPD Parser and Laserwriter 8 prefs.

You will now need to add a printer OS 9.

If that doesn’t work (which it should), try it again and make sure that the PPD Parser and Laserwriter 8 prefs have been deleted. If you still can’t get it, send us an email.
