How do I import a PowerPoint (ppt) Presentation into a Promethean Flipchart (flp)?

September 14th, 2005 by Brandon

I have hundreds of PowerPoint presentations all saved in PowerPoint for Mac’s .ppt format. I would like to use all of these Powerpoint presentations with my new Promethean board and ActivBoard/ActivStudio software. Is there any way to convert or import my old Powerpoint presentations into a flipchart format that ActivBoard and ActivStudio use so I can display them on my Promethean Board? The flipchart format is .flp.

For some reason, the Promethean company has not made this a very easy task. I don’t know if Microsoft is not allowing them to have a quick import function, or if they have not yet programmed it into the software, but the result is the same, it is a somewhat lengthy process just to import a .PPT to a .FLP.

Here is how you do it with version 1.x.x on a Mac.

Save your Powerpoint as a .PDF (one of the powerpoint Save As options.
In ActivStudio, open a new flipchart, select file, import from PDF.

This is the only way I know of importing a Powerpoint presentation into ActivStudio. I have heard rumors that the beta version of ActivStudio 2 does not have this feature, but we can only hope that the first official release of version 2 will contain a simple “Convert to .FLP” feature.
