Computer freezes when trying to print an email

September 4th, 2005 by Brandon

I still can not get the printer to work when I try to print my e-mail. My computer freezes up (tried it 3 times) and then I have to pull the plug to get the computer to come on again. Please help.

Having personally worked on this problem on this user’s computer, I can tell you exactly what fixed this problem.

First let me start by saying that the users computer did not “freeze up” but instead showed the spinning “pizza wheel” icon meaning that it was working, or in process of loading. The computer would not finish it’s operation, even when left overnight.

This person was running Microsoft Outlook which runs in Mac OS X through the Mac OS 9 (Classic) app. Microsoft has not released Outlook for Max OS X, but has released Entourage, but it does not work with distribution lists, so this person’s school district has not adopted Entourage.

The fix to this problem was to delete the OS 9 System folder and drop a new one in. The system folder for OS 9 was missing files that were required to run OS 9, so it was freezing when trying to run any OS 9 application.
