I have seen many different Mac OS 9 printer error numbers. These codes are usually vague at best and finding information about what they mean is usually impossible. However, following the tip below can solve a lot of the problems regardless of what the error number is, or what it means.

Delete the following files:

Macintosh HD > System Folder > Preferences > Printing Prefs > Parsed PPD
Macintosh HD > System Folder > Preferences > Printing Prefs > Laserwriter 8

If you delete those two files, all of your OS 9 printers will be deleted as well.

Then just open your Desktop Printer Utility and add a printer. Verify that your printer is working by printing a page to it.

That should fix most of your OS 9 printing error codes!

I have just had an experience with a HP 5550dn Color Laserjet printer, one of the large printers.

This printer stopped printing and showed a 49.0E00 error. Nothing different was being printed, and there was no indication before the failure.

After spending time with HP product tech support they told me that the 49 errors are a generic error that could mean a lot of things. However, they generally mean a bad print job.

In the end I had to go around to the computers that are set up to print to the 5550dn over the network and clear their print queues. Another way would have been to restart all of the computers that could connect to it.

Hope it helps.

While my OS 9 iMac is loading I get this error and the only option is to restart:

“Time Synchronizer” Error 41

Is there anything I can do to fix it?

This will be a very simple fix…as long as you have an OS 9 install disk.

All you need to do is boot from the OS 9 install CD and open the ‘System Folder’ on the Hard Drive and replace the ‘Finder’ with the finder located in the ‘System Folder’ on the CD you booted from.

Restart and Voila!
