Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) to connect to remote locations

November 30th, 2005 by Brandon

Since Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) hit the market it has been a great resource for those tech professionals that have multiple computers at multiple locations. Some employers have even used ARD to spy on their employees, but we won’t get into the legalities of that (be very careful).

If you need to connect to a remote location, the best way to do it is to use the “Search by Range” feature. That will allow you to add computers based on a network range. This way, you will be able to do everything you need to do at a remote location.

You can also try to add by IP address if you know the current IP address of the target computer.

Keep in mind that this only works if you’re connected to that remote locations with a VPN, or if you’re on the same subnet.
